First of all, are you prepared for your interview? Accounting careers are out there, but they're not going to give them away, to just anyone. So what is it? Are you ready? In order to be ready you have to be prepared to answer the hard questions. You need to be ready for questions about your previous work experience: what you think your greatest achievement is? What is your plan to be doing in the future? No, the answer to that question does not have anything to do with the interviewer's job.
One problem you're going to run into when trying to attain clerk jobs is the fact that our economy seems to be going downhill. The jobs appear to be disappearing, but the problem is that there is a lack of money. With a lack of money businesses are less motivated to hire new people. For this reason, you need to make them believe that they will benefit from hiring you, and that means you're going to need to sell yourself.
Selling yourself in a quick manner is very important to landing any type of clerk jobs. Accounting jobs require someone that can think fast and provide solutions in the event anything goes wrong. But as always, you will stand a much better chance in this market if you actually have an MBA rather than a CPA as this is what many employers look for these days.
Confidence is the key, if you don't appear to be confident in your own abilities, then why would any company actually hire you? They don't want someone that feels they cannot do the job, and this is one of the things that will show in the interview when you're trying to get into accounting jobs. If you appear to be nervous, or even stutter, they're probably not even going to consider you for the position that you're going for.
If you want to overcome this problem, then it would be wise to practice your interview skills with a friend or even family member. There is no substitute for the real thing of course, but at least it will help you a little. Remember to look over your resume too!
The resume is very important; it needs to contain a record of all the things you've accomplished and all the jobs you've held. You will also need to create an impressive cover letter that will get the potential employer excited about reading there rest of it. This is the first step in attaining great accounting careers. It's not going to be easy, but there is no doubt that you can pull it off if you really try. Anything worth having is worth working for, especially accounting careers!
