Job Description:

Tax Counsel Lead, US Advice

What is the role

As a Tax Counsel Lead, US Advice, you will be responsible of the following duties:

You will focus on business-facing transactions and responsible for tax advice in mergers & acquisitions, new business development and structuring projects for Shell’s dynamic business portfolio in the U.S.

Be a member of the U.S. Tax Advisory Team focused on U.S. consolidated group, partnership, international, and general U.S. corporate and business tax matters with the ability to work flexibly across the U.S. or international advice space depending on experience and interest

You will report to one of the U.S. Senior Tax Managers and contribute to overall development of the U.S. Tax Advisory Team through mentoring and coaching other tax advisers to deliver high value and comprehensive direct tax advice impacting shareholder value

Requirements

What we need from you

You must have legal authorization to work in the USA on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

You must have approximately 9 (nine) years of broad experience in transactional tax and business taxation working for a multinational company or a professional firm

JD is required; JD/LLM and or JD/CPA is preferred

Licensed to practice law in Texas or another state or U.S. jurisdiction

Demonstrated experience leading and supporting complex domestic and international transactions including corporate restructurings and mergers & acquisitions.

You must have technical knowledge and experience in U.S. domestic and international tax law (for example, inbound/outbound taxation, relevant business tax planning, consolidated group attribute planning, acquisitions and divestments, structuring, partnerships, and tax treaties)

Fundamental understanding and knowledge of income tax accounting and tax provision preferred.

Effective communicator of complex tax issues; both written and oral

Effective client/project management, task prioritization and establishing and utilizing external relationships and contacts for the benefit of Shell

You must have strong negotiation skills and effective at influencing others internally and externally

Ability to adapt to new or changing circumstances and ambiguous or pressured situations

Demonstrates imagination and creativity in the evaluation of issues and development of possible solutions

Ability to recognize opportunities, spot and evaluate tax risks, balance risk with business objectives, and make recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate, and supportive of the business

Effective team player on Tax and cross-functional/cross-sector teams
