Job Description:

What is the role?

The Operations Inventory & Volume Analyst is responsible for the recording and tracking of physical movement of crude from the point of origin to its destination as a sale to the refinery or trade. The team ensures that each movement is captured in our systems correctly and on time. Collectively, the team is responsible for reconciling over 3,000 truck and inventory locations across various grades for STUSCo’s (Shell Trading US). Duties include confirming and reconciling volumes on trucks, barges, and pipelines as well as resolving any volumetric discrepancies with counterparties.

Beyond these key deliverables, the Operations Inventory & Volume Analyst is expected to “own the molecule” and understand the operations and commercial implications behind the data. The Operations Inventory & Volume Analyst plays a critical role in the Crude Trading Operations organization and is expected to manage losses, prevent profit leakage, and analyze / report on all aspects of crude movements within their assigned region

Responsibilities:

Verifying and recording approximately 25 million barrels of purchases and sales per month

Accounting for moves at 3,000 locations through Shell Pipe Line Company, various 3rd party pipelines, railcars, 20k trucks and barges

Recording and accounting for refinery sales, memo sales, lease activity, and proprietary pipeline activity

Accounting for all regrades and transfers of crude

Reporting to Operations on the inventory position, which is used in the planning of future moves

Assisting the financial closing team in the review of significant differences between forecasted and actual volume

Reconciliation of STUSCO’s inventory balances to third party statements

Resolving volumetric discrepancies related to crude oil movements

Identifying root cause of problems and taking proper action to resolve them

Scheduling meetings with internal stakeholders, Shell Pipe Line, or 3rd party companies to resolve discrepancies

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Minimum 3 years of accounting experience is a must.

Scheduling experience in a oil and gas industry is preferred.

Previous exposure to a fast past, high energy and demanding trading environment

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are a necessity.

Must understand the business and demonstrate a base level of commercial acumen.

Must be able to work with their trader to understand the intent of deals and clarify where needed.

Advanced Excel skills are required.

Awareness of SQL and basic database concepts strongly preferred.

Experience with analysis/reporting on large/complex data sets required.

Experience with analytics/reporting tools (e.g. QlikView, Tableau, Spotfire)

Demonstrates ability to manage competing priorities with a detail-oriented mindset
