Job Description Summary
The utility tax department has set up an internship program which will allow college students and recent graduates to put their classroom learning to use in a corporate setting. Some of the areas interns will get hands on experience in is the tax provision and filing federal and state tax returns. In addition to on-the-job learning, the intern will be exposed concepts unique to the utility industry such as regulatory accounting principles and the rate making process.
Primary Duties /  Responsibilities 
Prepare journal entries in accordance with US GAAP and International IFRS rules
Reconcile deferred tax asset and liability accounts on a quarterly basis
Support the month-end and year-end close activities for various departments
Assist in the preparation of corporate income tax returns and assist with information gathering and work paper organization
Prepare various tax returns and supporting schedules (including corporate and partnership income tax, property, sales/use and various other miscellaneous returns)
Perform on-line reviews of general ledger system data
Maintain processes and controls in compliance with internal control requirements
Assist in the preparation of US GAAP financial statements and analyze data/variances and regulatory reporting to various state public utility commissions
Research, stay current with and document new law changes under Federal and State laws

Understand the Federal and SALT Income Tax Compliance cycle
Overview of Return to Provision 
Introduce different rules applicable to SALT
Understand the Corporate Structure and ownership of the subsidiaries
Sales & Use Tax
Prepare the monthly reconciliation of Sales & Use Tax
Assist in responding to inquiries, and prepare exemption documents
Assist in the monthly payments to all local jurisdictions
Preparation of policies and procedures related to Sales & Use Tax
