POSITION: Payroll Specialist • Accountant I
POSITION NO: 2.104
DEPT: Finance
Under the general direction of the Assistant Finance Director, this position is responsible for completing bi-weekly payroll for all employees of the City of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. As a member of the Finance Team, this position may also be required to participate in cross training in other areas. This training may include, but is not limited to duties related to grants, debt, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, journal entries, utility billing, the annual audit, and the annual budget.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Knowledge of accounting terms and processes
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Ability to exhibit an exceptional learning capacity.
Ability to use equipment and supplies in a safe and economical manner.
Ability to plan, organize, and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities, and complete work assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
Ability to provide professional, punctual, and courteous service to the public, and deal with adversarial situations tactfully and firmly while striving to maintain a spirit of cooperation and problem solving.
Ability to display patience under difficult and stressful conditions.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to plan and perform duties independently while exercising good judgment and initiative.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Prefer two-year degree/certification in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Prefer minimum of 1 year experience working in the area of governmental accounting.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
Proof of the following NIMS/FEMA certifications will obtain preference (must be completed within the first 2 years of employment)
ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Valid Florida Driver's License (if not currently held at time of hiring, must be obtained within 6 months)
