$73,255 – $93,218 Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Summary of Position

This class is responsible for assisting in auditing the records and accounts of state agencies, quasi-public agencies, or state­supported institutions and may supervise the work of field audit staff as assigned. An Auditor II works under the immediate supervision of an auditor of higher grade who reviews work for effectiveness and conformance with policy.

Example of Duties

An Auditor II assists in the preparation and execution of an audit plan for conducting financial, compliance or performance audits of state agencies or programs, quasi-public agencies or state-supported institutions in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards; assists or independently reviews auditee’s financial statements for conformity with generally accepted accounting principles; documents auditee’s internal control system or aspects thereof and assists in determination of risk; reviews auditee’s compliance with state or federal laws and regulations; assists in the preparation of written audit reports, including recommendations for corrective action; does related work and special projects as required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of auditing principles and practices; considerable knowledge of commercial accounting practices and procedures; knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, budgeting, and financial reporting; considerable skill in performing mathematical computations; skill in the operation of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and accounting related software; ability to prepare written reports; ability to read and understand laws, regulations and contracts; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and the public.

Training and Experience

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or related business field with at least 18 semester hours credit in accounting and auditing courses and at least three (3) years of employment in technical accounting or auditing work is required. Candidates who have also completed a master's degree in accounting or public administration or who are Certified Public Accountants (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditors (CIA) will be given strong preference. Advanced skill in Excel is preferred.

Substitutions Allowed

Two (2) years of experience at the level of an Auditor I may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.

Special Requirements

Incumbents in this position may be required to travel. Employment offers are contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
