Beveridge & Diamond seeks a Billing Specialist – Insurance Biller to join our Accounting team. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and Billing Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Compile, review, verify accuracy of, and send monthly (ebills and paper) bills
Execute complex bills in a timely manner (including multiple discounts by matter, split-party billing, etc.).
Enroll and manage accounts in the third party ebilling systems (including coordination/ communication with attorneys regarding short pays, invoice rejections, appeals, budget requirements, status updates, accruals and other requested information).
Create, maintain and update on a weekly basis the summary billing information for each case showing the status of each invoice (where in process), the payment status of each invoice and recovery percentage of each invoice – specific to insurance billing.
Create, maintain and update weekly the invoice appeals spreadsheet for each case showing the rejected time and cost entries, explanations for rejections from the insurance provider, and suggested appeal information in response to be reviewed by attorney(s) – specific to insurance billing.
Enter time and cost appeal responses for each entry rejected in the ebilling system for each case.
Understand and apply each insurance company’s and client’s billing guidelines and requirements to invoices prior to submission in the ebilling system.
Work with and train attorneys on timekeeping requirements for billing to insurance companies in order to reduce the amount of rejected entries.
Update billing rates and create new billing formats/templates as needed.
Research and respond to billing inquires, issues or problems.
Create billing schedules and other billing analyses, as needed.
Follow firm billing policies and procedures (i.e. firm write-off policies).
Assist with implementation of new billing system and software.
Effectively interact and communicate with attorneys, staff and clients.
Ensure strict confidentiality at all times.
Assist with special projects as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
College (bachelor’s) degree.
At least two years’ prior hands-on billing experience to insurance companies.
Experience using Elite or CMS/Aderant and eBilling Hub, preferred.
Proficiency with MS Office, particularly MS Excel.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize work flow and use time efficiently.
Perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment.
Adapt to ever-changing work priorities.
Ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision and follow-up on own initiative.
Flexibility to adapt to differing work hours when overtime is needed to meet client requests.
Excellent communication (oral and written), analytic and problem-solving skills.
