Senior Internal Auditor
Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for supporting and executing projects in the University-wide internal audit plan: planning through fieldwork, including creating individualized audit programs for university activities, developing recommendations to improve university policies and processes, and meeting with university management to discuss such recommendations. This role requires more versatility than public accounting, as projects cover areas besides just financial auditing. The position reports to Campus Internal Audit Directors on projects and overall to the Director of Internal Audit and Advisory Services (Director).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree that includes at least 24 semester hours of Accounting or Auditing coursework
3 years of internal or external audit experience
Certification, or stated intent to obtain, relevant certification(s) (CPA,CIA,CISA,CGFM, CFE)
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or IT
CPA or CIA certification
Demonstrated understanding of risk and internal control concepts and their practical application
Working knowledge of systems such as SAP, PeopleSoft, and the data analysis tool ACL
Experience in higher education
Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent independent judgment and analytical skills; strong interpersonal skills; a track record of timely completion of projects and the ability to responsibly manage competing priorities; success in collaboration and working with distributed resources/ project teams; and commitment to the ideals of a major public research university.
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge is acquired may be considered. Applicants who do not hold 24 semester hours of Accounting or Auditing are classified as Internal Audit and Advisory Analysts.
